The Sinfonia Orchestra is a semi-auditioned ensemble, under the baton of Samuel McLellan. All wind, brass and percussion players are auditioned each September and string positions are open to any players who wish to join and are a minimum of grade 5/6 standard.
Sinfonia aims to provide an opportunity to play in a large orchestra in a more relaxed setting than the fully auditioned Symphony Orchestra. Concerts are given at the end of each Semester, with a joint concert with Chorus every other year. Venues have included the Reid Concert Hall, St Mary’s Cathedral and Greyfriars Kirk. Recent repertoire has included Elgar’s Enigma Variations, Dvorak’s Stabat Mater and Glazunov Symphony no. 4.
